From Christian (Kinston Disc Golf):

Hi Kinston area disc golfers - MEETING TODAY! at 5:30pm

Here's a google map to help you find the course area:

<http://www.google.com/maps?q=Kinston,+NC&hl=en&ll=35.255975,-77.61328&spn=0.010583,0.020063&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=41.903538,82.177734&t=h&hnear=Kinston,+Lenoir,+North+Carolina&z=16>

It's West of the intersection of 70/258 and 11/55, on the left side if you're heading west and on the right side if you're heading east toward New Bern.

One entry way is to turn in Tyndall Park Drive/Blvd, and turn down Diane Blvd and look for several trucks/cars parked on the side of the road.

Russell Schwarz wants to meet everyone and talk about the course. Hope you can make it!

And please share the message with other Kinston-area and down east disc golfers, because I may be missing some email addresses here. Thank you!

GVDG Minutes, April, 2012

Attending the April 11 club meeting at Professor O'Cool's was Todd Markov, Kurt and Erin Hodnett, Max Crotts, Justin Kingery, David Guy, and Candace Morphies.

At the time of the meeting, GVDG had $1617.57 in the bank.

The club voted to purchase a hole sponsorship (hole #17) for the King's Cup VII at Kinston, which is coming up in May. Registration is now open for the tournament, and there's some great news coming up about a new course in Kinston, too!

We're going to be doing some redistribution of tee pads in the near future at the Meadow. Since Hurricane Irene ruined our purple pad placement on hole 10, we're going to take the old purple ECU tee pad and use it for the new placement on hole 8. We're also going to pour two new tee pads--one to the right of old purple on 10 and one ultra long on hole 8.

A lot of the benches and a few of the tee signs need some TLC, so Pyg is replacing the sign on #14 (with the original 4"x4" from hole 14 at old ECU), and Kurt is going to get the sign on 10 back out. Jim West has volunteered to replace the bench on hole 10 (white), and David Guy is going to replace the top of the bench on 15 (blue). We'll try to do more of these updates this year, but these will be the first renos.

WORKDAY: Saturday, April 28, 10:00 a.m.

Please come out and help us make some of these changes! We're also hoping to invest in some more alternate sleeves for pin positions to get more out of our land at the Meadow. Eventually, we'd like to have baskets to fill all the pins (and not just one per hole). This means you should come out to all the doubles and participate in all the basket fund initiatives Mills is heading.

To better get a handle on the trash problem we have at the Meadow, Max is going to talk to city officials to see if we can get some more trash cans at the Meadow. He's also going to be bringing some trash bags out to doubles so groups can all participate in the pick-ups.

Next club meeting: Wednesday, May 9 at TBA.

May Member Appreciation Monthly--May 5th, 2012

The May monthly is our 2nd Annual Member Appreciation Monthly.

It will be held at Robert Avery's house again this year.

Pig pickin' cookout between rounds 1 and 2!!!----Free!!!

2012-2013 Memberships can be purchased for $15 on this day only!!!  Otherwise, they are $20.

Camping is allowed and encouraged.

Format:

1st Round--11AM; Singles

2nd Round--4:20PM; Doubles

3rd Round--Dark-thirty; Glow Doubles

Entry Fee:  $5-$20 CTP  You may also be asked to bring something for the cookout.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PLAY ALL THREE ROUNDS!!!

Basically, each round is it's own separate tournament....kind of.  We want people to play all three if they can, but we try to keep them separated so those with scheduling conflicts have a chance to come out for at least one round.

I may have left something out, so leave a comment if you have any questions.

GVDG Minutes, February, 2012

Nine club members met at East Coast Wings on 10th Street last Wednesday to discuss club bidness. Attendees were myself, Adam and Jenny Baker, Todd Markov, Max Crotts, Sean Goo, Jason Myers, and Kurt and Erin Hodnett.

In regard to club finances, we currently have approximately $1285 in the bank. As you've hopefully noted, we've decided to start a "Club Store" here on the blog, a store that included discs AND other Innova products (baskets of all kinds, towels, etc.), so if you need something, talk to Adam Baker or one of the other officers.

Prices on discs:
  • DX-$8
  • Pro-$12
  • Champion-$16
  • Star-$17
By buying from the club, not only will you have a better selection than you'd find in the store in regard to molds, colors, and weights, but you'll also be supporting GVDG by purchasing through us. Want something specific like a white Star Leopard, 171-173g? Want three black microfiber towels? Let us know and we'll do our best to hook you up!

The Ice Bowl was a success, and next year one of the changes will be to have nice trophies for each division's winner. Some like the idea of trophies, some like the idea of bag tags as trophies. Please respond to this post and let us know which you prefer.

GVDG has decided to continue to fund a yearly scholarship for the Pitt County Social Security Scholarship Fund. At times in the past, we've raised money for this at the Ice Bowl, but we're going to adhere strictly to the Ice Bowl rules from here on out and donate all proceeds to local food banks to fight hunger. That was the mission of the first Ice Bowl more than twenty years ago, and we're going to support that mission fully. So, that leaves us with $250--the amount of this year's scholarship--to raise in other ways. We might have an event dedicated to this later in the year, but we're also going to chip away at the expense by taking 5% of each Ace Pool win and putting it toward the scholarship. (We estimate that'll raise about $100.)

About the Monthly Points Series
There have been some different ideas up in the air concerning how many events (of the twelve monthlies in the series) would be counted. (One idea was to count everyone's best 10 finishes and drop two, for example.) We've decided, at least for this year, to go ahead and count all 12 in hopes to reward maximum participation.

In light of the new series, monthly entry fees and divisions have been changed. There will now, at least for this first year, be three divisions: Pro ($15 entry), Advanced ($10 entry), and Amateur ($6 entry). The big Monthly-Point-Series payout at the end of the year will be deeper than one, we're sure, but we're not yet sure how deep it will be--could be anything from 2-5 deep, depending on participation. Sean, the coordinator of the series, is really trying to feel everything out this first year--the divisions, the entry fees, the payout depth--and that's why very little of this is set in stone. He wants to get this right, and we have complete faith that he will. If you see Sean, thank him for orchestrating the series and giving us all even more reason to come out and participate in GVDG monthly events.

Meadow Work Day: February 26 after Sunday Baggers
We will be deciding on a new white tee-pad placement for hole 8, so if you'd like to have a say in where the tee pad will end up, be there ready to lift with your knees!

As always, let us know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 14 at Christy's Euro Pub. Hope to see you there!

Club Store

This isn't your conventional online store, but the idea is the same.

This is starting for the first time in Feb 2012, so bare with us in the beginning and we'll refine the methods you can take to buy merchandise through GVDG.

We carry Innova products.....not just discs.  We have some inventory, plus we can order something if we don't have it.

To order or inquire about something, post below or contact Adam Baker by email (adamzbaker@alumni.ecu.edu) or call/text (252-717-2268).

DX-$8
Pro-$12
Champion-$16
Star-$17
I'll add prices for the rest of our inventory ASAP!

Thanks!
