Thank you for your interest in the Greenville Disc Golf Scholarship. We are a group that was founded in 2004 as a result of the public wanting a new disc golf course in the town and having to prove there were people, more than just a handful, that actually wanted it. Over the years the club has expanded to cover more than just one course in our town. We hold events that take place weekly, monthly and annually, including the culminating event, The Down East Players Cup.

As we’ve begun to reach into the community to see what else we can do to educate, enable, and create more space within the sport, we decided on a scholarship for one or more graduating seniors in Pitt County was the way to go. We began raising money in late 2019 and are hosting our now annual GVDG Scholarship Shootout in the early new year for the foreseeable future as our main source of income for the scholarship.

As we don’t require the applicant to be a disc golfer per se, preference will be given to those who have played and continue to play. With that said, we are looking to make an impact with more than just someone who plays or has played. If you plan on majoring in a field akin to Physical Education, Health and Fitness - including Nutrition, Community Development or any other major where you feel like you could have a positive impact on disc golf and the disc golf community, this scholarship is for you. Do not feel that just because you are not attending a four year university that you are not qualified for this scholarship. You will have ample space in the application to explain to us how your intended major could positively impact the sport.

Thank you for your time and energy in completing this application. We look forward to reading it and getting back to you as soon as we make a decision.
